Last week I wrote a post about the new book I was reading called Not On Our Watch. I have learned many things just from the first few chapters. I was informed about a site called ENOUGH. It discusses the atrocities that are occurring in Africa and the ways that we, the American people, can make a difference. I am so happy to have found it. It is educational, inspirational and down right amazing! Their mission is
“to stop and prevent genocide and mass atrocities by promoting Peace, providing Protection, and Punishing the perpetrators. We use field and policy analysis and strong policy advocacy to empower a growing activist movement for change.”
People are dying every day. Men, woman, children are dying. Men are killed, sons are taken to be turned to child soldiers ,woman and their daughters are raped everyday. Everyday. Everyday. Everyday. This has been going on for years. We have to help.
I know it is hard to truly understand the mass problem. It is horrific and overwhelming. But accepting the fact that it is happening is the first step. What you do with that knowledge is up to you.
Here are three links that are very informative about the crises that is happening today. This is where the worst atrocities on human life are occurring. Here is a map to get an idea of where we are talking about.
So what can we do about it? I know I felt helpless when I found out the facts. But I don’t anymore. ENOUGH has given us the resources to not just help the people of The Congo, Darfur, and Northern Uganda, but the ability to CHANGE what is happening. It can be very simple.
You can show your support by displaying a graphic on your email or your own site. Here is an example.
Click HERE to get the graphics. You can also sign up for email alerts. But the best and most effective way (and happens to be the easiest) thing you can do is send a letter to Congress and to The President. They have made it simple. I did it in less than 2 minutes.
The one thing that touched me the most about this movement was their vision:
Our mission is simple.
To overcome this inertia that permits genocide + mass atrocities to exist.
To fuel a movement committed to ending these crimes.
To abolish this stain on humanity once and for all.
No more excuses.
No more red tape.
No more waiting.
The time to say ENOUGH is now.
I have had enough. I hope you have too.
